Ex-pitman casts his spell on the corporate world

Ex-council worker George Dunn, has reinvented himself as a professional magician after 20 years as a pitman for Sunderland City Council. George has loved magic since being a child, and has now been accepted into the Magic Circle as a professional magician. George, who is 64 years old, performs for audiences in his local area, including charity work, weddings and corporate events.

As a child, George started to practice his magic using David Nixon magic sets, progressing over the years to performing complex coin and card tricks. He is now working on his mind reading, or mentalist act, which he hopes will set him apart from other magicians. Although George loves performing magic for audiences, his audition for the Magic Circle proved to be quite nerve wracking. The audition is in front of professional magicians, who know exactly how the trick is done, making accuracy imperative. After taking voluntary redundancy from Westoe colliery, George worked full time on his act, hoping to make it into a full time career.

Although magicians are hugely popular, they are not to everyone’s liking. Comedy dinner shows are a popular alternative, as they give a common theme to the evening, with everyone joining in the fun and laughter. For corporate events with a difference, a reputable agency will work with you to create an evening of fun and entertainment for all your guests. From a Fawlty Towers night to Father Ted, you will be guaranteed the best actors and comedians to make the night a roaring success.
